When a student takes admission in any college, one of the first things that he usually sees is for the availability of the basic amenities. In the present era of technology one of the basic things that any college provides is free wifi. But what if a college start charging you for using and availing the wifi facility.
A notice has been issued to Jai Hind College of Mumbai by the Joint Director of Mumbai Region office. Jai Hind College is Charging, Rs 1000 to provide wifi Service at college's campus in Churchgate. A union of students "Maharashtra Navnirman Sena blame the management of charging capitation fee. This student wing said that the college management was charging an annual fee of Rs. 1000 for the facility.
According to the Maharashtra Educational Institutional Act 1987, it is considered as the violation of the norms and is considered as punishable act. Students are demanding to take legal action against management and Principal. A clarification has been asked from Principal.
According to Principal Ashok Wadda "This decision was taken after having discussion with the student council. Under this the management had voluntarily decided to provide wifi facility to the students. The student's organization had complained about the same issue earlier too."
The Previous Matter
The issue like the same has been raised in previous year also, that while granting admission to students for the degree college for the year 2015, the institute had collected Rs. 1000 from each student for proving wifi facility. The main thing here is that, though the college has issued the receipts for this transaction but it is still not included in the main fee receipt.
After a big haphazard last year university ordered to return the amount to students in September 2015, but a month later the order was cancelled.
