Every district in Punjab will have a sports school. These
schools will be opened to prepare young talents for major sporting events”,
said Punjab’s Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. “The schools will prepare
children for big sporting events”.
The Deputy CM said “The students will be imparted free coaching
by the experts and here they can complete their education too. Hostel facilities
will also be provided”. He was addressing a gathering at the Dr. B R Ambedkar 6th
World Cup Kabaddi 2016 match in Begowal, Punjab.
The Deputy CM who is also the Sports Minister said “that
Punjab already has two sports schools at Bathinda & Jalandhar. Next year an
ultra modern sports stadium would come up in Begowal. The cost to the stadium
would be Rs.2.5 Crores”.
The minister also mentioned setting up of Punjab Institute
of Sports (PIS) at Mohali. The institute has all the modern sports facilities.
More than 5, 00 students are being trained at PIS.
The
Deputy CM said that “We are targeting that in 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Punjab should
have the maximum representation in the Indian contingent”.
