A report on 'State of Indian Universities in the Global Academic Rankings' from O P Jindal Global University and Indian Centre for Academic Rankings and Excellence(ICARE) was presented to President Pranab Mukherjee.
As the report was presented, he showed confidence in Indian institutions involved in scientific research as they will soon reach the top spot across the world. He stated, "The physical infrastructure for higher education in India has increased considerably. However, the importance given to research in our universities is still inadequate. Many universities were earlier doing well but not enough data was being provided to the ranking agencies. I express happiness over the work being done to raise the standards of Indian varsities. The report that was presented to the President mentioned the statistics, India has five institutions in the top 50 and nine in the top 100 in the University Rankings Asia, 2016. India also secures a spot among the top 10 research producing nations across the globe. 44 institutions of the nation managed to secure a spot in the top 250 of the BRICS Rankings 2016. These figures will be a moral booster for the institutions across the nation.
