Education Minister of Puducherry, R Kamalakannan, announced on Wednesday that there are 520 posts of teachers are vacant in the government schools and soon the government will them up by hiring the teachers on contract basis.
Due to the concurrence of the Finance Department of Puducherry, the government is not able to hire teachers on regular basis and therefore it was decided to hire the teachers on the contract basis, he told the reports.
He further added that the government took the decision to ensure that government schools produced results with the increased pass percentage in the public exams.
The minister also released the results of class XI public exams and said that the pass percentage this year is 89.35 as recorded by Puducherry and Karaikal regions.
A total of 15,246 students had appeared for the exams of which 13,622 students successfully passed the exam.
He further clarified that students who could clear the exams will not be allowed to sit in class XII without a break and the rule applied to both private and government school students.
He also said ‘government would adopt 'academic audit' to ascertain the punctuality in attendance of teachers, discipline on the part of students and coordination between schools and parents to augment pass percentage in the future.’
