The beneficieries of the new scheme will be family pensioners and teachers of state government-aided schools, who were drawing pension on December 31, 2015. There will be a raise of 20 percent for the teachers between 80 to 85 years and 30 percent for the teachers who are above 85 years of age and less than 90.
The minimum revised basic pension will be INR 8,500 and the new order will be effective from April 1 2020.
State education minister Partha Chatterjee said the government aims to provide benefits to the elderly school teachers who are now retired. "No other state governments have worked for the retired teachers the way we have done, despite our limited financial capacity," he said.
