In order to prevent the studies students from getting affected by the use of mobile phones, Maharaja Harish Chandra PG College recently, issued a notice to ban the use of mobile phones by the students inside college premises.
Statement from the Principal, Dr Vishesh Gupta
"The mobile phone has become a distraction in studies. The students are so involved in the social media and also, the boys are constantly talking to girls on the phone. Therefore, we have banned it to maintain discipline".
A teacher on the issued statement reacted saying "We expect a level of maturity from college going students. Banning something is not the solution".
Reactions of the students to the new found rule
- "If children are old enough to attend college they are also old enough to know when to and not to use their phones. If a ban is necessary to regulate something as trivial as mobile phones then it is a question mark on the authority itself," says a student, Aakanksha Peshawaria from Hansraj College.
- "I partly agree to this. As a college student, I feel that the use of phones should not be allowed only during lectures. Using phones inthe premises apart from class I don't think creates any sort of problem. If the usage is totally banned then it is wrong. Phones like anywhere else in college also serve the same purpose. Parents have given their children phones as it gives them a sense of security that their children are just a call away. Banning the usage will cause trouble in locating where they are. College faculty cannot keep a track of that as they have many students to deal with," says a student, Garima Bahl from Jagannath International Management School (JIMS), Vasant Kunj.
Many other students also reacted to this saying that students know when to use and when not to use the phone. Banning the phones forcefully is nothing but tyranny.
