A letter sent by Kummanam Rajasekharan, the BJP State President to the HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar requested him to take necessary steps in order to rectify the mistake and remove some controversial part from the chapter titled “Effective History and Civics” of class 8 ICSE textbook.
It depicted that the great philosopher, poet and saint of Kerala, Sree Narayana Guru was a leader of only a particular community in his times. It ignored all his contributions to the social life.
As a social reformer, he had led a major reform movement against caste discrimination and had promoted social equality and social freedom. He preached “one caste, one religion, one God”. Many eminent personalities had admired his visions and philosophies in his life.
The BJP President requested the HRD Minister to direct the ICSE Board to modify the controversial part that is included in the syllabus and include the portions from “Critique of Caste” that is “Jathi Memasa” written by this great philosopher who belonged to the backward Ezhava community and had fought for the oppressed sections of the society.
