Researchers at the Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University, Department of Biosciences, have tested a formula which can kill the antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The formula was tested by combining the silver nanoparticles with the Ampicillin, one of the early antibiotics. antibiotic resistant bacteria is considered as a great threat to public health.
The formula was tested on six different strains of the bacteria - both sensitive and resistance to antibiotic - and the results showed that it is effective in killing the antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
The finding was done by the research team headed by Prof. Meryam Sardar and included Nafeesa Khatoon, Hammad Alam, Afreen Khan and Khalid Raza.
During the research, the team exposed the bacteria to the formulation repeatedly and found no resistance even after 15 cycles of exposure.
Talking about the finding, Prof. Sardar said “the resultwould be extended to more clinically pathogenic resistantstrains.”
