On Saturday, JDA continued its drive to demolish the illegal hostel constructions of the National Institute of Medical Sciences University (NIMS) campus.
Teams evacuated the four hostel buildings situated in the catchment area of Ramgarh dam before demolishing the illegal constructions. The teams are also involved in removing the derbies from the land and as temporary measure they are dumping all the derbies at a nearby vacant land in Achrol, which is situated 2-km away from the campus location.
Earlier, JDA also decided to demolish the remaining illegal construction using the controlled detonation technique but for now the idea is on hold as JDA is waiting for the JDA commissioner, Vaibhav Galeriya, to return from the foreign tour as the detonation expert is demanding an unreasonable high price for the job.
According to senior JDA official, "Expert S B Sarvate has demanded assistance of a consultant and Rs 45 lakh to demolish these buildings. The JDA has approved to provide a consultant, however, it has not decided to pay such hefty amount. The final decision will be taken once JDC is back."
According to the sources, some buildings were demolished in 2012 using the controlled detonation technique and during that time Sarvate charged INR 7 lakh for the work, In five year, the price has gone insignificantlyhigh.
"The expert has reasoned that numbers of pillars in these four hostels are more and usage of explosives will be more," added an official.
According to the officials, university has intruded upon 8,125 square meter of land. Following the order of the SC, JDA issued notice to the NIMS to remove the illegal construction from the land. The drive was initiated because NIMS failed to follow the orders.
