Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) University has formed a Mental Health and Counseling Committee (MHCC) which will provide psycho-social support to the students who are staying in hostels, campuses and outside during and after COVID-19 lockdown.
Prof SM Sajid of Department of Social Work is the head of the 13 member committee and Prof Naved Iqbal of the Department of Psychology is the Convenor of the committee.
Dean Students Welfare (DSW), Chief Proctor, OSD (Planning & Development) Faculty members from the Department of Social Work and Psychology, Provost G.P. Girls Hostel and CMO are members of the committee.
It has been decided that the committee will meet (Face to Face/online) for consultation until COVID-19 persists. The initial time-period of the meet is 3 months.
A 12x7 telephone helpline will also be set up to provide counseling over the telephone and committee members’ mobile contacts will also be shared for direct contact.
If required, the committee will consult external experts and resources in extreme conditions and it may visit the hostels and other parts of the campus as and when needed.
