Union Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Minister
Pratap Singh Rudy said that “The Vocational Learning Courses should be
integrated with existing skill development courses for better job prospectives”.
The Minister was addressing a ‘Partners Meet’ organized by
National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). He also expressed concern about
the quality of education being given in Indian Technical Institutes.
The Minister added that “There were 18 Lakh ITI seats in the
country and out of which 11 Lakhs are just electrician and fitters courses. Yet
we struggle to find a good electrician. We will have to integrate subjects like
Computer Science etc in the current courses, so that students can find good
jobs.”
Rudy said “He was surprised over the demand of new ITIs,
when the seats in the present ITIs are vacant”. He added that NSDC and AICTE
should stop focusing on just charts and figures”.
“We will have to change the way we teach. We will have to
teach electrician courses student how to operate a computer, how to download
etc, so that they are able to get job”, said Rudy.
