IIT Kharagpur has long been regarded as one of the top technical institutions in the entire country. In a bid to further strengthen its image, the IIT is now planning to set up India’s very first Quality and Reliability school. As per the institute, this is being done with an aim of improving the people’s quality of life and make them quality conscious and responsible.
As per an official release by the institute, it is striving to better the 3Ps – Process, People and Planet while targeting the natural systems, engineering and humans.
According to the Director of IIT Kharagpur, Prof P P Chakrabarti, this new school would be interdisciplinary and have students and faculty members from a number of disciplines. The school is expected to have a comprehensive view on the multiple applications that are possible within the 3Ps domain. The school would additionally focus on all the traditional Q&R areas.
The institute’s Director was quoted as saying, "It shall also serve as a hub of Intellectual Property in Quality. The School will be a trend-setter, as has been many of IIT-Kharagpur's initiatives, particularly those supported by the alumni."
