For many years, we have been ruining the absence of Indian Universities in the world’s best universities list. But the wait is finally over now with IISc Bangalore bagging the eighth rank is the 2017 edition of the Times Higher Education Ranking.
With this, IISc Bangalore becomes the first Indian University to be placed among the top ten universities in the world. The list comprises of ‘Best Small Universities in the World 2017’ and takes into consideration the Universities where less than 5,000 students are enrolled.
The first and third places in the list have been occupied by USA’s CalTech University which has a student population of below 3,000 and Pohang University of Science of Technology of South Korea respectively.
The ninth place in the list has been given to the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
Apart from IISc, no other University of India has featured in the top 20 list. In the rankings of the last year, two Indian Universities made it to the top 20 but none made the top 10 cut. In this year’s list of top 10, three colleges each from France and Italy have been placed in the list.
