IIM Calcutta is all set to launch collaborative rural community
program. The project would be launched in order to build next generation of
collaborative and responsive rural community by digitally empowering them. The
project would be undertaken by IIM’s (C) Social Informatics Research Group. This
project is part of a larger project funded by Information Technology Research
Academy.
50 smart phones have been donated by Panasonic India for the
project so as to study the usage of smart phones.
The objective of the project is to analyze and measure the strengths
and influence of smart phone enabled social information systems on the
socio-economic performance of self help groups, the micro-communities in India.
Another objective is to empower the rural communities.
“The NCoRe would primarily address the current information
gap between rural and urban market”, said the Director of the MIS Group IIM C
Panasonic India is partner for the project and it will
impart training to 50 50 SHG Members of Kandi, Murhsidabad on the use of the smart
phones.
