New changes in the examination pattern of the Charted Accountant exams has been announced by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The exams are scheduled to be held from May 2019 onwards. ICAI has selected some papers from the ICAI intermediate (New and IPC) and Final courses (New and Old) and these will have MCQs which will comprise 30 percent of the total marks.
In an official notification, ICAI said “the question papers in respect of the said papers will have two parts, Part I comprising MCQs to the tune of 30 marks (each carrying 1 to 2 marks) and Part II comprising descriptive type questions to the tune of 70 marks.”
For answering MCQs, candidates will be given an OMR sheet and they will have to answer the questions by darkening the appropriate circles with HB Pencil and for the descriptive test they will have to write the answers in the usual way.
ICAI also said that the last entry in the exam hall will be allowed until 2:15 pm and this will be applicable to all the papers. The exam will conclude at 5:00 pm.
"No student will be allowed to leave the exam hall before 5.00 PM(IST) even if he has completed the paper. Candidates are required to remain in their seat even if they had completed the paper. This will be applicable to all the papers including the composite papers mentioned above," the notification said.
All candidates will also be required to submit the OMR sheet, answer book for descriptive answers and MCQ booklet to the invigilator before leaving the exam hall.
"Non-submission of the MCQ booklet to the invigilator after the conclusion of the exam, will be deemed to be an act of unfair means and will be dealt with accordingly," said the notification.
