Two weeks earlier, the Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production and
Curriculum Research (Balbharti) had proposed changes in the exam pattern for the students with special needs, who are studying in class IX and X but, has now canceled its own plans.
In the last week of September, in a circular, Balbharti had proposed to give more weight to the internal marks in case of children with special needs. Currently, these students have internal marks in subjects of Math and Science. In an attempt to be more inclusive it was suggested in the circular to add 20 internal marks for language subjects and 30 internal marks for social studies only for the children with special needs.
However, the proposal was opposed by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education and teachers.
On Tuesday, Balbharti issued a new circular maintaining the original pattern for the students with the special needs. “For the ongoing academic year, we have decided to continue with the old pattern. We will hold further discussions and take the necessary decision for the next academic year,” said Sunil Magar, director, Balbharti.
