Minister stresses on significance of skill education at WCSC graduation ceremony
World Class Skill Centre(WCSC) was set up in 2013 in collaboration with ITE, Government of Singapore, to instil skills as per industry requirement. With a capacity of 1000 students and state-of-the -art facilities, it offers one year ITE Skills Qualification certificate courses in Hospitality Operations, Software Testing, Retail Services and Finance Executive. The MoU covers accreditation of the center and certification of students, development of curriculum, training of trainers and management staff and monitoring and evaluation of training of the trainees.
“Around 2.5 lakh students pass out of Class 12 every year in Delhi. Of which 1.25 lakh students cannot afford higher education. For such students, such skill centres could be a viable alternative” said Manish Sisodia, Education Minister at the graduation ceremony of WCSC held on January 17. “Skill-related education should complement graduation courses”, he added.
Mr Manoj Kumar, Director of DTTE has said that five batches have been successfully trained so far and attained a bench mark of average 98% result with 100% placement in leading MNCs, hotels and organisations the world over. Mr Jayant Krishna, CEO, NSDC, said that WCSC is a 'show window' of both skill training coupled with employability. Dr Edmund Chia, Deputy High Commission of Singapore, appreciated the academic quality of the skill training at WCSC which is of world class standard. “WCSC, Delhi is a benchmark for similar centres in Rajasthan and Assam”, he added. The Delhi government plans to set up its main WCSC campus with a capacity of 1000 students at Jonapur, South Delhi in 37 acres of land.
178 students graduating from WCSC under the Department of Training and Technical Education, Govt of Delhi were honoured and awarded medals and certificates on Tuesday. Rajkumar Kasana, a hospitality student, got an offer of Rs 14 lakh per annum to work aboard a cruise. The following students received gold medals in their respective disciplines: Aseem Chaudhary in Hospitality, Priya in Retail service, Bhoomika Chaudhary in Finance Executive and Yukta in Software testing.
