Delhi University has directed the colleges to mark the attendance of the students using the new online system. Under the system, the teachers will be able to mark the attendance of the students in real time instead of uploading it later.
In an email to colleges, the university said, “… Your admission portal will also serve academic and student life cycle management. Use the system after going to the new section on the dashboard called ‘Attendance Management System (AMS)ʼ.”
The AMS system was added to the university to help students track their attendance but since its addition, it has attracted criticism from the academic council and executive council members.
In DU, 66 percent attendance is compulsory and students who failed to meet the criteria are not allowed to sit in the exams.
On July 16, the system was launched and the training of the teachers were held at the DU Computer Center. At that time staff was told that the system was not mandatory.
