Every since Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come to power, the popularity of Yoga in the country has sky rocketed. Now, even the CBSE has come out in support of it.
The CBSE recently announced that class 10th boards exams would now be brought back. To add to that, the CBSE is not making plans to make Yoga a significant element in the schools as early as the next academic session. The CBSE issued a new notification in this regard. It stated that additional grades would be given those students of class 10th who practice yoga. The board said that it is a way of showing patriotism.
The students would be assessed for their co-scholastic activities on a grade from A to E. Some of the other activities to be included under this apart from yoga include NCC, sports and martial arts. The CBSE is taking up this initiative in order to imbibe discipline among the students.
The board stated, "Discipline significantly impacts career shaping and it helps build character. Sincerity, good behaviour and values develop strength and foster unity and co-operation. Therefore, the element of discipline has been introduced."
The notification issued to the schools also included, "Students should be provided opportunities to get professionally trained in the areas of their interest. Indigenous sports, yoga and NCC must be encouraged in the schools to create a sense of physical fitness, discipline, sportsmanship, patriotism, self-sacrifice and health care,"
The board made it clear that these grades won’t impact the overall results of the student. The notification further added, "This is aimed at enhancing the seriousness of students towards preparing notes for the topics being taught in the classroom and completing assignments. This will also address the critical aspects of regularity, punctuality, neatness and notebook upkeep."
