IGNOU's MA degree program in Women's and Gender Studies is now open and is accepting the applications for the admissions from the interested candidates. The last date to apply for the course is July 15. The University has been offering the program since July 2013 in association with the School of Gender and Development Studies (SOGDS) at IGNOU.
The program is open to all the candidates from any discipline with an undergraduate degree who may be interested in acquiring conceptual,
Theoretical, and analytical knowledge in the areas of women's and
gender studies.
About the program
The program is 2 year-long in duration and comprises of 8 courses and project work.
The first year will introduce the candidates to the feminist theories & concepts, and gender perspectives in relation to social power hierarchies, arts & media and representations of gendered bodies and sexualities. Being modular in nature, candidates will be free to leave the program at the end of the first year with PG Diploma in Women's & Gender Studies or can complete the second year for a full MA degree.
In the second year, learners can choose to pursue specialization in any one of the below-mentioned areas:
- Gender
- Literature & Culture in Women's Studies
Besides, a compulsory course in Research Methods, specialized courses in the two streams will help the candidate in enhancing their knowledge in the area of specialization. The courses will arm the students with the foundation as well as advanced knowledge which will prepare them for the opportunities later in their career paths.
