HRD Ministry made an announcement making Aadhaar card mandatory for the students who are applying to avail the benefits of the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme.
The ministry issued a notification which said," those who do not have the card and are receiving these scholarships will be required to apply for enrollment by June 30 this year."
By making the Aadhaar card mandatory government is hoping to bring in the transparency to the process so that beneficiaries can get their entitlements directly in a convenient and seamless manner. Also, by making the aadhaar card mandatory the compulsion to submit multiple documents can be removed.
J&K is an exemption to the rule
An official said," until the students do not get Aadhar card, they can apply for scholarship with their Aadhar enrolment ID slip, Aadhar enrolment application, voter identity card, PAN card etc. But this rule will be implemented by the ministry from the day of the publication of the notice in all Indian states except Jammu and Kashmir."
Recently railway recruitment board also made it compulsory for the candidates to have aadhaar card applied for the vacant positions.
Similar steps have also been taken in the Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme for school children. In another notification, issued by the government, it said," students who wish to avail the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme will also have to apply for Aadhaar by June 30."
