Yes, I Can Be a Fundraiser
Fundraising, a great career option nowadays. Working for charity directly or indirectly is a big achievement in its own. Many fundraisers are not born, they are made. But few fundraisers have inborn skills to raise funds for good cause. What you need is never give up feeling. You should always feel like a leader. A leader never gives up & keeps going with the passion of raising funds. It's not that easy to interact with a person who is a stranger to you, & asking to support for a kind cause. You have to be patient enough to convince a person to donate by his own will.
A fundraiser needs to build good relations with the prospects which lead to donation. When you give your prospect the very first call, you should never ask directly for funds. Rather you should first create such a comfort relationship with him so that at least he could give a thought to support. Renowned NGO's like Plan India, Care India, UNICEF, etc everyone requires good fundraisers. Even they can't approach the general public directly. So it's a great career opportunity standing ahead if you are inclined towards helping poor people/NGO.
You should always have the knowledge first about the charity purpose or the cause for which you are raising funds. Than only you will be able to tell the prospect that how it feels to be in place of those people who are suffering from poverty, unwanted diseases, handicapped. Then only you will be able to convince them how important their support is to such kind of people. Do not forget to always practice the way you ask for donation.
Keep the spirit "yes, you can do it" always up.
Accept failures positively. Keep trying. People around you are not going to beat you. Max to max what you'll get is a NO! That's it. This will go as you'll practice more & understand the beauty of fundraising. But remember not to show the hunger of grabbing the cash like a lion do to its prey. Always have a faith in yourself, be trustworthy, loyal to your work, you are here to help needy people, not to cheat.
Once you will intake all the fundraising techniques, one day you'll become the best fundraiser for sure. You'll find your ways to face the fundraising challenges. You will forget to say NO, I CAN'T. You will be optimistic & a leader too.
