A few days ago, PM Modi addressed the
whole nation through the 45th episode of ‘Mann ki Baat’. In the episode, he
talked about and discussed various issues with the citizens of the nation such
as International yoga day, India’s cricket match with the Afghanistan and how
doctors are important to keep a nation such as India a healthy nation.
As he addressed the whole nation and
went face-to-face through ‘Mann ki Baat’ he also shared the importance of
education in one’s life and how those who are educated can help the others
around them. He demonstrated this with an example of the engineers from
Bangalore, who have joined forces to help fellow farmers from the city.
We all know that engineering is a
profession of innovation and invention but invention and innovation is not the
only way to extend the help to someone in need. These engineers from Bangalore
have not invented some fancy gizmo to ease the pain of the farmers, but have
come together to create a ‘Samridhi trust’, which has doubled the income of the
farmers.
The funds in the trust are utilized to
provide farmers with the most efficient methods and hacks of the farmings in
form of training and the training is provided by the experts from the
respective fields. As a result, these farmers are no longer dependent on
harvesting single cash crop throughout the year for the income. They learned
new and pragmatic techniques of the organic farming and are now growing more
than single cash crop in their fields. To add icing to the cake, these farmers
are not only growing multiple crops only but also, fully engaged in the
marketing of their crops and are getting the best prices for them.
The engineers also took all this a step
ahead and created a seed bank so that agricultural strains remain available
throughout the year. They have also included women, which help in supervising
the work of the seed bank.
On the one hand, the farmers of the
nation has the responsibility to bring the food to the table on the other hand
engineers are utilizing their talents to help the farmers to make sure that
food is available for the all the citizens of the nation.
PM Modi commended these technocrats for
coming out of their comfort zone and connecting with the farmers, villages,
barns and agriculture.
