All of us know it very well, that after the CBSE and the PUNJAB school boards; Andhra Pradesh is the third one who sends more than 80% of their students every year for getting admitted in the Indian Institute of Technology. Well, last time out of the top 20 students of the IIT entrance exam, 8 of the students were from the Andhra Pradesh school board.
Every year this rate is maintained by the Andhra Pradesh board. Now, the thing to note is that whether this is a pure coincidence every year or is it that some of the state boards provide their students with enough intellectual ability so that they get the ability to crack this kind of entrance tests.
Professor Jonathan Plucker made a recent study in the University of Connecticut and he proved that in case of any tests in the US, usually students who are white are more proficient in mathematics and in case of reading English. While the non-white students who come from the poor families or who does not have a good grasp of English are usually not much proficient. The white students are mainly better than the non-white students in mathematics.
Between the times interval from 1996 to 2011 it has been found out that the percentage of white students achieving high marks increased from 2.9% to 9%, while the percentage of black students achieving higher percentage has increased by only 1%. Well, another study was also conducted and it showed that over the years, the number of students scoring higher percentage in the federal mathematics test usually belongs to the state of Massachusetts.
Well, in India such kind of studies regarding the influence of group, hereditary or environmental factors or community on learning is considered to be a taboo. But, the people of India really feel happy when they find that studies in US shows that Indians ranks among the most highly educated students over there. But, such kind of studies on educational field is really very important for a lot of reasons.
Arthur Jenson suggested long back that poor performance in studies mainly results from genetic issues rather than any kind of stimulation, but now we have progressed a long way. As a result now we must try to realize the strength and the weaknesses of the different castes and sects and the groups. It is already known by most of the Indians that the level of education for the muslin women is just terrible. Well, studies show that the numbers of illiterate Muslim girls are more in number in the state of Haryana.
There are several programs at the international level like Program for International Student Assessment. This is an international project which is launched by the Organization for Economic co-Operation and Development in the year 1997. The main aim of this program is to evaluate the education system across the globe. At the present moment about 70 countries participate in this program and it has helped them rectifying their mistakes in the field of education.
