The private medical colleges had committed to reserve 50 per cent of the total seats in MBBS when they were allowed to be established as they were sponsored by the government under its quota. However the colleges are allocating only 35 per cent of the seats.
BJPs local unit general secretary R V Swaminathan raised his concerns against these colleges in the Union Territory for 'dishonouring' their promises.
The college earns lofty amounts for these seats. Swaminathan also informed that the colleges have not allocated even a single seat in PG courses like MS and MD
To make sure that these institutions allocate the seats for government quota the students for the PG Courses should be sponsored by the Centralized admission committee (CENTAC)
The colleges decline to admit the students in MBBS courses under the government quota though such colleges in Tamil Nadu were admitting students under that State government quota.
The Puducherry chief minister N Rangasamy has been told by the General Secretary to intervene and procure justice to the local Puducherry students by ensuring that the undergraduate students get the seats as per the government's policy and the Students of the Post graduation also get the seat allocation under the government quota.
