Yogi Adityanath's government contested Rahul Gandhi for his baseless allegations based on the report which claimed that UP government has reduced the education budget of the state by a massive amount.  In their defense, the UP government claimed that in fact, they have increased the funds allocation for the education sector by 25%.

“Great move CM Yogi - next you can save more money by closing all the hospitals,” Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had tweeted on Saturday, based on the report which claimed that there have been massive cuts in the education budget of the state. The report claimed that the education budget has been almost cut by 90% by the government.

According to the report, this year government issued only 576 Cr as opposed to the INR 9990 Cr last year for the secondary education and for the higher education only INR 272 Cr have been issued while last year the allotted figure was INR 2742 cr. However, the reported figures are at complete variance with the figures, which are mentioned in the UP government's budget document for year 2017-18.

Deputy Chief Minister and education minister Dinesh Sharma, told the ET that there is nothing concrete in the reported figures and government has paid full attention to the education.

A statement in the same regard was also issued by the CM's office which said that "the total budget for education (basic, secondary and higher education) in the present budget has risen by 25.4% from Rs 49607 Cr last year to Rs 62185 Cr".

“The budget for basic education has increased from Rs 38066 Cr last year to Rs 50142 Cr. The budget for secondary education has increased from Rs 8956 Cr last year to Rs 9384 Cr and budget for higher education has increased from 2585 Cr last year to Rs 2655 Cr,” the UP government said in a statement on Sunday, pointing to its official budget document.
