In Maharashtra, to prioritize health, yoga camp is being
organized where students and teachers are asked to attend. It's not mandatory
but attending will help them gain marks. This was confirmed by state school
education minister Vinod Tawde.
Tawde himself attended a yoga workshop by Baba Ramdev on Wednesday, after which he asked students and teachers on social media to attend the same. A circular has been issued to schools but teachers are not happy with it. They believe that as marks are associated with it so students will misuse it. Students submit forged certificates for attaining marks given for playing sports.
Tawde is an adamant promoter of yoga and in the past too had asked yoga to be included in school curriculum as a compulsory subject who spiked huge controversy as Muslim outfits strongly protested against the idea.
Other states, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh have already introduced yoga in their schools from last year, so following in their footsteps, he too asked the same. He also did yoga with students of Dixit School, a civic school in Vile Parle on the eve of International Yoga Day.
On December 11, 2014, the United Nations Genaral Assembly had declared 21st June as the International Yoga day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested the adoption of this date for the same in his UN address where he said "“ "Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us deal with climate change. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day."
