West Bengal Assembly passes bill for setting up St. Xaviers University in Kolkata

On Thursday, St. Xavier’s University , Kolkata Bill 2016 was passed by the West Bengal Assembly in order to improve the quality facilities and to bring in private investment for the higher education system of the state.

To increase the quality of higher education among the emerging students of the state, Partha Chatterjee, West Bengal’s Higher Education Minister stated that the government has already planned a policy to develop the higher education system which provides the students with the best education.

On Thursday,  St. Xavier’s University , Kolkata Bill 2016 was passed by the West Bengal Assembly in order to improve the quality facilities and to bring in  private investment for the higher education system of the state. The Minister also stated that, the system would emphasise on the guiding principles of expansion, inclusion and quality. St. Xavier’s College Educational Trust has come up with a proposal to start a self financing private university called St Xavier's University Kolkata.

The trust would provide training, teaching, instruction, training and research in various disciplines and specialised field of science, performing arts, law, technology, management, medicine, social sciences, education and humanities. The minister mentioned that the Higher Education Department had proposed to incorporate the university after they made a serious investigation regarding the proposal.

The minister exhibits his confidence and hope that there will be an increase in the quality of the education in the state by the university along with the support of such a kind of premier educational trust. Catering to the growing number of the students, the state requires a full-fledged university with quality facilities and a sound financial background.
