Pune: The admission procedure of Savirtribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) hostels is on the verge of going digital and shall be channelled online from the very next year.

The critical 'parasite' admission problem will not be problematic anymore, due to the introduction of online admission process functioning over 16hostel amenities for boys and girls combined.

The 'parasite' admission is actually the admittance of those ones, who have not registered in the university, but somehow manage to make it the other side. Numerous years have passed but still the issue is untreated. Complaints about such notorious inhabitants still reverberate in the hallways of the hostels.

'With the support of the prevailing online system, management has only retrieved complaints regarding power shortages, water leakages and other significant matters'says T D Nikam, SPPU hostels' Incharge.

It added fuel to the fire when it occurred that a tenant of one of the University hostels, who was not enrolled in the university list, committed suicide in the varsity's vicinity.

Nikam added further 'With the implementation of online admission process, it shall become easy to gain information regarding the ones staying in the hostel. Additionally, a rigorous verification process shall also be undertaken to match student's credibility. Due to this cross-verification, parasite admissions shall be terminated to death.

The management had already started its appointing on preliminary basis. Yet, accurate implementation of this online procedure will be conducted from the very next year. The online system had already commenced and they are working on a prototype for the same. They have to arrange admission procedure to accommodate students in 16 total boys and girls hostels. 'Traditionally, students who sought admission in the university had to later on fill up the hostel admission forms separately. It was only after the approval of Head of the Department that a student's form would finally touch administrative office. But with this digitally innovative admission technique, each student on enrolment shall receive a unique identification number to apply for hostel admissions' told Nikam.

He even pressed that on the successful execution of this newest technique, complete bio-data of a student will be available in a jiffy. 'The trial version of this system worked on the similar grounds. In coming of time, we shall incur more lucidity in the process and make it simpler' were the words of Nikam.

If time favours, university is even planning to introduce biometric attendance system for the registration of students.
