Recently, the Higher Education Department of Haryana asked a
band to conduct a series of concerts and musical workshops at various colleges
across the state. It's a Gurgaon-based music band - Paddy Boyz. They have
already performed at two colleges in Panchkula and at a Government College for
Girls in Sector 14. It seems to be an innovative move.
They gave a two hour long performance by singing both classic and filmi tracks. The audience containing 500 students was thoroughly entertained. According to a final year student of BA Hindi Hons, Rakhi raghav, the band sang most of her favorite songs including Chhookar Mere Mann Ko. They also sang old tracks as well as new songs. To this, her classmate, Jyoti added that the band made the performance enjoyable by calling students on stage and making them sing. One of her classmate was called and was appreciated by all. Not only students but the principal of the college, staff members from different colleges also came to see the performance.
As per Padamjeet Sehrawat, a cricketer-turned-commentator who is also the lead singer of the band, these concerts are a method to educate besides being entertaining. He added that this is the idea of Vijai Vardhan, additional chief secretary, Higher Education and Cultural Affairs, Haryana. He believed that important lessons of life can be taught via music. The band has composed five songs called as "Educative Musical". These songs deal with gratitude towards teachers, the value of togetherness, respect for women, determination etc. for example- they have songs about girl child called "Ladli" and a song called "Sir, We Love You" which is about student-teacher bond.
