Donald Trumps’ presidential victory has created lot of doubts and insecurity among the large number of foreign students who are studying or planning to study in US universities. This is because Donald Trump, during his presidential campaign, had suggested that he would be putting a cap on the number of immigrant students who wish to come to US for higher studies. To allay the fears of prospective and current foreign students, many esteemed US universities and colleges like Yale, Ohio state, Portland state, Indiana State, University of Virginia, Darden School of Business, have committed that Trumps’ presidency would not affect their mandate on inclusion and diversity. They have reaffirmed that campus will always be open to enroll the students of other countries.

Dean of Darden School of Business, Beardsley said that nothing had changed in his institution. International students are eligible to get full support and loans and scholarships will continue to be provided on the basis of qualifications. Margaret Everelt, of Portland University, said that they are informing the students about the current scenario, holding information sessions and answering their queries, so that students can feel safe and comfortable. India is the second largest country that provides international students to US education institutions and Indian students represent the largest group of international students in Portland. Peter Salovey, President of Yale University, said that there are changes in US laws and a team of experts and administrators are appointed to analyse the legal issues.

The number of international students crossed 1 million for the first time and fees collected by them is double as compared to the local students. Therefore US Institutions do not want to lose big business and thus are finding ways to cope with the current situation.
