VARANASI: Each year, lakhs of Engineering aspirants write the entrance exam for the UPTU - Uttar Pradesh Technical University. And if an error occurs in an examination of such scale, it can lead to dramatic impact on a large proportion of population.
The question papers distributed in the UP Technical University's entrance examination for B Tech course was full of errors that have put the future of more than one-fifth aspirants at stake.
At 33 centers of Varanasi, Ghajipur and Jaunpur districts, over 20% aspirants out of 18290 appeared in this exam got AA' series papers in which first four pages were blank while there was the repetition of questions on other pages. In-charge of Varanasi Node centers admitted that candidates, who got AA series papers, had been given Xerox copies of whole set after getting orders from UPTU.
The issue of distribution of improperly printed question papers came into light when the applicants came out of their examination centres and reports the matter to their parents. The principle of Harish Chandra PG College Dr Sohan Lal Yadav, revealed, "Applicants got AA series question papers started complaining after few minutes of distribution of papers while many questions were reprinted on different pages."
The nodal centre Varanasi covered 33 centres of Varanasi, Ghazipur and Jaunpur districts of this examination. The Nodal officer (Varanasi) JB Srivastava said," on getting instruction from UPTU we directed all the centres in-charges to arrange Xerox copies of the whole set of AA series question papers and distribute it among the aspirants. The aspirants were also directed to not to attend repeated questions."
The aspirants could be found complaining that they could not get sufficient time to attempt all the questions given in corrected version. This is because the nodal centre and centre-in-charge took long time to initiate remedial actions. However, the officials said that aspirants were given 10 minutes as extra time for attempting the questions.
