An upper age limit has been fixed for entry level classes by the directorate of education, Delhi. There was always a debate on the upper-age limit but the minimum age was fixed in 2007. Separate limits have been imposed for differently-abled children and even further relaxation have been permitted for mentally challenged ones by the DoE, a departure from their usual practice.

Points distribution systems are likely to be altered due to this as according to this nursery admissions are conducted.

For nursery classes, the upper-age limit will be less than four years as on 31st March of the year in which admission is sought. For KG (pre-primary) classes, it is five years and for Class I, six years. This was contained by the order issued on December 18. According to principal of Ahlcon International School, Mayur Vihar and chairperson, National Progressive Schools Conference, Ashok Pandey, it's a thoughtful move. He said that due to difference between ages of children from two months to two years were creating issues with the cognitive and social development of students."

For physically-challenged kids, the age limit is five years for pre-school, six years for pre-primary and seven for class I. Pandey agrees of these different rules for differently abled children. He further says that for the mentally challenged, it is less than five years as on 31st March which can be further relaxed

Sumit Vohra of admissionsnursery.com said that to select mature and toilet-trained kids many school were giving points on age. Parents may be disheartened who couldn't secure seats last year. There need to be admission rules and vacancies to be announced in KG as well.
