The cost of good education is not affordable to a good chunk of people living in our country. A number of organizations and government schemes have tried to change this but to no avail. Now, there is another new campaign that hopes to change the situation.
The first ever non profit in the world that is tuition free and is a recognized American Online University, the University of People, has said that it will soon come up with a number of bachelor and associate degrees in the field of Health Studies.
Just last month, the University had announced that it would launch a new MBA degree to add to its already functioning bachelor's and associate programs in the field of Computer Science and Business Administration.
The ambitious program has got guidance from a number of well known figures including Darcy Brisbane Kelley who is a professor at the Columbia University, Torsten N Wiesel, who is a Nobel Laureate and Rockefeller University's President Emeritus and Dalton Conley, who is a Professor at the Princeton University.
According to Shai Reshef, the President of University of People, "We realize that in most countries, the demand for healthcare workers is huge. The critical shortage of skilled health-care workers, which manifested previously with SARS coronavirus, Ebola, and now with the Zika virus, has brought alarming attention to the fact that governments are unable to effectively handle global health crises partially due to insufficient, quality programmes to address the shortfall. UoPeople's Health Studies programme will prepare health workers for the workforce as well as prepare students for advanced studies within the medical field. We believe that in developed as well as developing countries, this is a priority that must be addressed".
If implemented properly, this program has the potential to bring about an education revolution throughout the globe. The results, however, would only be visible after a while.
