With the mushrooming of Universities in all parts of the country, a number of students have been facing issues such as fraud. UGC, the university watchdog, and regulator in the country, has now taken strict notice of this problem. As per an official, the UGC has been keeping an eye on the fake universities and was blacklisting them on a regular basis.

Now, to further increase its vigil, the UGC has directed all the universities in the county to publish all their authentic information on their respective websites. The information to be uploaded includes number of students studying, the information about faculties, fees, the courses offered and others.

The universities which don’t furnish this news would be given a place in the defaulters list. Additionally, the UGC may also ponder upon stopping its financial assistance to such Universities. This plan has been duly approved by the Central Government.

The Secretary of UGC, Dr. Jaspal Sandhu was quoted as saying, “Similarly, a National Academic Depository (NAD), an inter-operable digital store house of academic awards (degrees, diplomas, certificates, mark-sheets) available on 24x7 online mode, will be in operation in a couple of months.”

The depository would contain digital format of academic awards of the students, boards and other significant documents. This plan is aimed at deterring the forged and fake paper certificates circulating in the market.
