PM Narendra Modi's speech on 15th August 2014 was one of its kinds. The first ever impromptu speech by any PM on the occasion of 15th August had a number of takeaways. One of the major ones was his call that within one year, each and every school in the country must have a separate toilet for the girls.
To move closer to realizing this mission, Smt Smriti Irani, the Union HRD Minister has released "Handbook on Swachh Bharat "“ Swachh Vidyalaya". Released in New Delhi, this handbook is aimed at encouraging the schools across the country to maintain proper hygiene and cleanliness in their premises. It also states that a 'Swachh Vidyalaya' must have proper drinking water facilities, regularly cleaned toilets, orderliness and well kept compounds. The handbook also mentions a number of good practices that have been undertaken by different schools across the country. It is aimed at encouraging the children, schools, parents and teachers to take the ownership and move closer to Gandhiji's dream of Swachh Bharat. The book asks all the stakeholders to follow Gandhiji's words, "Be the change you want to see in the world".
It pushes the children to think about the whole society and become an ideal citizen.
