Months after the historic Brexit, the value of pound suffered a dramatic downfall. This change has equally impacted the education system in the country, making studying there cheaper for several students, including Indians.

How Indian Students will benefit?

  • The value of pound has plunged from Rs 100 to Rs 88 since June 23, thus lowered the sky-rocketing fees in the institutions, making it come down by Rs 1.5 lakh in the overall academic fees
  • The overall expenses have also plummeted; for instance, the fees of IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is now Rs 7100, whereas it was Rs 10,000 few months ago
  • Students will be at ease regarding obtaining visa, living cost, food expenses and other miscellaneous expenses

"There is always a silver lining in everything and for Indian students, Brexit has brought about just this silver lining. The recent weakening of sterling is a welcome change for many current and new students joining British universities this year," said Sanam Arora of the National Indian Students and Alumni Union (UK)

Lower fees will last for how long?

  • The transition in the fee is for a short period of time, it can mitigate the pain of only those students who are applying in the current or coming session
  • "This significant fall in costs is a short-term trend and would advise students to both take full advantage of this cheaper pound but at the same time be cautious and not base long-term decisions on uncertain market movements" she said
  • It has also been speculated that the course fee, which is usually 9,000 pounds, might increase soon.
