UGC issued a letter to the universities to prepare for the fit India Moment

All the universities are required to prepare and publicize their fitness plans on their websites and notice boards within a month

On August 23, 2019, the University Grants Commission issued a letter in which it informed the Universities that PM Narendra Modi will be launching fit India moment on August 29, 2019, from Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. The main aim of the moment is to take India as a nation on the path of fitness.

Excerpts from the letter (Directions to the institutions)

Following points were mentioned by the UGC in a letter to the institutions:

  • Make necessary arrangements in the institute for live viewing of the program by the students, teachers, staff and officials which will be broadcasted live  on Doordarshan. During the launch, PM Modi will take the fitness pledge. Every person should attempt to walk 10,000 steps on August 29 and make this a routine.
  • Short video clips of the activities carried out in the campus on August 29 2019 to be made.
  • Prepare and implement an Institutional Fitness Plan, incorporating sport/exercise/physical activities for fitness into the daily routine for everybody to adopt and practice.

Order for the Universities

All the universities are required to prepare and publicize their fitness plans on their websites and notice boards within a month and upload the same on the UGC’s Fit India Moment portal. Universities and affiliated colleges must take concrete steps in promoting the importance and culture of physical fitness on the campuses.
