Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath informed the Assembly the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) will commence its functioning from this academic year. Initially, IIIT will operate from the National Institute of Technology’s (NIT) campus in Agartala. The reply from the minister was a given to an attention notice moved by the Sushanta Chowdhury and Dilip Das on the progress of establishing the IIIT in the state.
Nath said that the project was approved by the center in Public Private Partnership (PPP) model in July 2012 but was delayed substantially, six years, because of lack of initiative by the erstwhile Left Front government.
“The construction for the IIIT will be made on a plot of 52.08 acres land at Bodhjungnagar. Meanwhile, we want to start the first academic session in NIT campus this year,” Nath said.
He further told that the first batch would be of the computer science students with the intake capacity of 30 students initially. The batch for Electronics and Communication will commence from the next academic session.
