For the academic session 2018, top position holders in Modern Indian Language (MIL) and skill education subjects will be felicitated by the Nagaland government. The announcement regarding the same was made by the Nagaland Governor P B Acharya.
The initiative is being taken by the Nagaland government in order to motivate the students so that they take up mother tongue and develop skills. The governor also said that mother tongue is very necessary for one's identity and therefore at school level, mother tongue must be taught to all on priority basis.
The announcement was made by the governor during the program which was held to felicitate the toppers of High School Leaving Certificate Exam (class 10) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination (Class 12) 2017, which were conducted by the NBSE (Nagaland board of school education).
During the ceremony it was also decided that students of class 5 to 8 will be taught mother tongue as a compulsory subject and alternative English will no longer be offered as a subject from the next academic session.
Governor said "the education system should not only be a channel to attain intelligence but needs to be diversified so that the youths become skilled to take up any challenges in life. It should help them in learning MIL".
