The subject wise Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the session 2016 ̢ 2017 are finally out and a couple of Indian institutes for computer science have managed to find a place in them. The Indian Institute of Science and IIT Bombay have managed to acquire 71st and 82nd rank in the list respectively.
Times Education̢s student content editor, Carly Minsky said, ̢India has achieved its best performance yet in the subject rankings, with two institutions in the top 100 for computer science. This new ranking, which shines a spotlight on computer science and information technology, goes to show India̢s strength in this specific area.̢
The rankings are topped by Harvard and Stanford Universities in the fields of arts and humanities respectively. The institute that has been named the best when it comes to economics and business is the US based Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In the clinical, pre-clinical and health category, UK̢s Oxford University has been adjudged the best institute in the world.
The computer science category, where India managed to find a place, is headed by the US based California Institute of Technology. Harvard University tops in the life sciences and physical sciences category as well. Stanford University is ranked the top institution in social sciences.
The surprise addition in the list is ETH Zurich of Switzerland which has managed to beat competition from other top US and European Universities to find a top spot in the Computer Science category.
The diverse list of institutions for computer science also includes rising universities from the Asia-Pacific region and Europe, many of which have not yet managed to appear at the top of global university rankings. The University of Oxford, which became the first UK university to top the table, makes the top five in seven of the subject rankings ̢ more than any other institution.
