To make the teachings of Bhagavad Gita compulsory in schools,  private member's bill may come up in the Parliament's next session, which may also suggest to de-recognize the schools, which fails to follow the suit. The book is enriched with the teachings on various topics such as spiritual awakening, lessons on leadership and management etc.

The Bill moved by Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament Ramesh Bidhuri said, "The noble thoughts and teaching of the Bhagavad Gita will make the younger generation better citizens and enrich their personality''.

Minority schools will be under no such compulsion

The bills, called the moral teachings of Bhagavad Gita as a moral Education Text Book in Educational Institutions Bill, 2016, stated that every educational institution should include the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita on compulsory basis as a moral education but any such compulsion does not apply to the Minority schools.

"The government should de-recognize schools that do not comply with the provisions of this legislation," it added.

High time to spread the teachings of Gita

Bidhuri, in a bill which was introduced in March, said, it is high time to make sincere efforts to spread the teachings of the Gita.

"It is highly deplorable that such literature containing infinite teachings for all age groups is neglected by our educational institutions," Bidhuri said.

"Many great thinkers of our time such as Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo and Albert Einstein have all deliberated upon its timeless teachings," he said.

The official statement from Lok Sabha said ""The president, having been informed of the subject matter of the Bill recommends to the House the consideration of the Bill under clause (3) of article 117 of the Constitution." The dates for the next session are yet to be decided.
