The program to train the untrained teachers-- Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) program by NIOS-- aims to train the untrained teachers which are appointed before August 10, 2017 and t develop them in skills, competencies, attitudes and understanding as this will help in making the teaching process more efficient and effective.
D.El.Ed. Program will be delivered to the teachers in the ODL mode and has been designed by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) on the initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.
The program consists of 10 papers and two semesters which are spread over the time period of nine months. There will be 5 papers in each semester.
All the untrained teachers which are appointed on or before August 10, 2017, are eligible for the program and the course for the D.El.Ed. program has been approved by National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE).
As of now about 12 lakh untrained teachers have registered for the program.
