In order to encourage students to study, a new project has been launched called "SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-learning for Young Aspiring Minds). According to this, if a student is not satisfied with teaching in a college, then they can pursue an online course on any subject, like Indian History or Political Theory, from a university of their choice by registering on a government portal. The marks obtained will be added to their final score cards and will be treated as any other regular course.

Some are criticizing it as they state students can understand better in a classroom through teachers and this is no substitute. The doubts can be cleared at hand and also not everybody has access to computer or a laptop.

Thus, if a student is not happy with the teaching, then they can register themselves in an online course in that subject from any other university. SWAYAM has been launched by the human resource development (HRD) ministry and it's a web portal where Massive Open On-line Courses (MOOCs), will be available.

As per HRD ministry all the concerns or doubts regarding this project will be clarified. They would be introducing 500 online courses from April under the programme, similar to massive open online course (MOOC) system followed internationally
