Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) along with students of College Engineering, Pune successfully launched a cube-shaped satellite. Vinod Tawde, education minister of Maharashtra congratulated and felicitated the team.
'SAWAYAM' the satellite was developed by the students of CoEP alongside the ISRO team. 19 other satellites were successfully launched by ISRO and after the success of the satellite; education minister made a statement that he will finance the next satellite project of the institution. The utility of the satellite will be to ensure that end-to-end communication is established even in the remotest of places. According to a spokesman, the next satellite will be three times bigger than SAWAYAM and will work with solar energy. This second project has also been approved by ISRO. Mr. Tawde said:
"With Swayam in space, the students and faculty members, who burnt the midnight oil to make this happen, have added another feather in the college's cap. I congratulate the students for their astounding achievement. Research work should not get affected by the lack of funds. The State government will allot substantial funds for research projects at the college level".
He was speaking at the 162-year-old premier institute, an autonomous body of the Maharashtra government. He also felicitated students and faculty members for their feat. He said the Higher and Technical Education Department will provide Rs. 50 lakh for CoEP's next satellite project.
