In a letter written to DMER (Directorate of Medical Education & Research) by the parents of MBBS and BDS aspirants, the concerned parents demanded starting of an additional batch for MBBS and BDS citing that many aspirants were unable to get the seats due to change in the admission procedure and huge chunk of seats are lying vacant across the institutes in Maharashtra.
It may be noted that the admission for the medical and dental courses closed in early October this year.
One of the parent said that “the changes were not introduced systematically, and the colleges had very less time to complete the admission procedure. Many colleges have vacant seats and eligible students are still waiting for the seats”
The parents also cited the example of the year 1997-78, wherein additional seats were created to accommodate more aspirants. With the increase in number of medical aspirants in 1977, the state created an additional batch to accommodate increasing number of students.
DMER responded by saying that “additional batch was created in the year 1977-78 since the number of aspirants had doubled from 700 to 1400. They also said that only the Supreme Court or the state government can bring in changes and directorate cannot do anything on this matter”.
“The
Supreme Court has refused to extend the deadline, our hands are tied”, said the
Director DMER, Pravin Shingare.
