“Shikshak Samman Yojana” is the recognition given to teachers who make students score well and give the best output for five consecutive years. The teachers will get an extension of a year in their service, as announced by the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Mr.Virbhadra Singh. He informed about this yojna while addressing a function at Jawalamukhi, organised by the Government Teacher’s Association. He also added that 1,329 schools were upgraded and 42 new government colleges in rural areas had been inaugurated to aid students in extremely remote areas. And also Rs 5 crore is being granted to every new college and about 1,177 teachers were appointed for the post in the state and 5608 vacancies were created for the teachers of government schools. Teachers in rural areas were appointed in various cities, thereby giving them an exposure to the city life.
The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh also said that many teachers and non-teaching staff have been recruited. 6,937 teachers had been regularised, 3,226 teachers had been appointed on contract basis and 9,538 posts of teachers were filled by the government. In the sector of higher education, 2,609 teachers and non-teaching staff had been regularized and through direct appointments, 1,959 posts of trained graduate teachers (TGT) had been filled. He said that 2,647 teachers were selected on a contractual basis. He also assured that there are many who have completed their teacher’s training waiting for their placements.
The minister also announced an increase in the teacher’s remuneration. Trained Graduate teachers who were appointed by the parent teacher association would get Rs 14,130, from the earlier paltry amount of Rs 6,950. For vernacular teachers, remuneration was raised from Rs 6,750 to Rs 13,590 and for primary teachers it was raised from Rs 7,500 to Rs 11,000 per month.
