The Indian government has set-up National Ranking Framework, which ranks the Universities and Colleges across the nation on the basis of various parameters set by the committee. At the 4th convocation of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER-Kolkata, Smriti Irani the Union Human Resource Development, Minister of India announced that the IISER will now have a different set of parameters to rank the higher education in the institution.
She mentioned that these IISER's have a major share in contributing to raising standards of quality education in the nation. These institutions significantly developed in very short duration of time. In an earlier announcement, she mentioned that if a student chooses to study in institutions, which enter into academic tie-ups with foreign institutes. Then, such institutes have to take care of the guideline that the student should study at least one semester for post-graduate degrees and two semesters for undergraduate degrees overseas. After these guidelines were updated to the institutions, the students of these institutes now have the choice of doing two semesters of undergraduate courses in a foreign institution and also one semester in postgraduate courses they opt for. In the guidelines, it is also mentioned that the name of the university and foreign institutions should be mentioned on the degree certificate.
"These institutes went ahead, forging academic collaboration links with renowned institutes abroad and this will allow the students to access academic facilities abroad while studying at the Indian institutions. For the first time in the history of our country, the government of India has allowed our institutions to tie up with foreign institutions for degree programmes," Irani said at the IISER's Mohanpur campus in Nadia district.
