Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) had terminated the services of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Director Appukuttan KK on April 23, 2016.
Now, as per a circular issued by MHRD, the director of an NIT who is the academic as well as administrative head. He is expected to have proven administrative, teaching and research background which includes a very significant experience in research guidance at the PhD or equivalent level alongside the leadership qualities.
The specific reason behind the termination of Appukuttan KK was that, he had been asked to relinquish the post of director from MANIT and report back to his parent institution NITK Surathkal immediately. However, Appukuttan was on medical leave for two months at that time and the new director NS Chaudhary had already joined the institute on March 10, 2016.
"The appointment shall be made on contract basis for a term of five years or till the attainment of the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier. Applicant must be below 65 years of age. MHRD has also invited applications for filling up the post of director in NIT located at Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Puducherry, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Silchar, Srinagar, Hamirpur and Surathkal. The director will be appointed after obtaining the approval of the competent authority, based on the recommendations made by the selection committee," an MHRD official stated.
