Over 13 lakh students will be taking the JEE Exam this year. The IITs and NITs will have a common seat allocation process this year through a single website. The seats will be allocated taking into account the Ranks in both JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced).

The ministry of human resources and development (MHRD) has called a joint meeting of IITs and NITs to discuss the details. A section of IIT professors will give an approval only after their reservations about the common process are discussed in the meeting. 


 If the notification to this effect that is expected by March 31 is out, the students have to fill a common from according to their choices. The notification will guide the students regarding the filling of options and the details on the process of allotment using both the ranks .The institutes have been working for a year to make the common allotment of seats in IIT and IIT.

The National Informatics Centre has taken over the responsibility to carry out the process. It is a complicated process and an algorithm will be worked out to provide justice to all the aspirants. The IIT Bombay director Devang Khakhar said that it is very important that the details are acceptable to all as a large number of aspirants will be a part of the common process.

A professor informed that this year the students can adopt their first and second choices for computer science at IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi respectively, the third choice of the same course being NIT-Surathkal and so on and so forth.
